The May “UWS Work From Home” meeting/networking/social event will take place this Wednesday (5/15). These monthly “meetings” serve as a great opportunity for people in the neighborhood who are self-employed, telecommute, freelance, or otherwise work from home to get out and meet people in similar situations from around the UWS. I’ve attended a bunch of [...]

Got the following note from MUW reader Gretchen a little while ago: Last night, 5/9/13, the woman pictured in the attached security footage stole a purse from a patron at the Parlour on 250 W. 86th St. It’s been reported to the police. We’re hoping that friends and neighbors in the community can help track [...]

Wrote last month that the “For Rent” signs at the long-vacant Georgia’s Cafe space had been taken down (2418 Broadway, at 89th). Now there’s some more information: A restaurant called Cibo e Vino – cibo is Italian for “food” — is applying for a liquor license at the space.

If you’re looking to get your drink on tomorrow night (Thursday, 5/2) while contributing to a good cause, there’s a nice event taking place at The Gin Mill (442 Amsterdam, between 81st/82nd). They’re holding a fundraiser to benefit people affected by Boston Marathon bombings.

It’s been more than a year since a liquor license application first appeared on the window of the Beacon Hotel (2130 Broadway, between 74th & 75th), indicating something was in the works. That something is the swanky looking Beacon Bar, which finally opened its doors last Friday.

Wrote back in October about Park West, a bistro from the owner of neighborhood stalwart Pomodoro that was slated for 103 W. 70th (between Amsterdam & Columbus). Six months later, it’s finally here — the bar/restaurant opened its doors on Saturday night.

Still trying to get back to a normal posting schedule and have a huge backlog of opening/closing news. A new restaurant called The Ellington recently opened at 936 Amsterdam (corner of 106th). While the space has a jazz theme and pays homage to the great Duke Ellington — West 106th Street is also known as [...]

Cava Wine Bar (185 W. 80th, between Amsterdam & Columbus) is the latest Upper West Side establishment to incur the wrath of the Health Department. DOH ordered the space temporarily closed on Wednesday. The wine bar/restaurant had previously earned an “A” during their last graded inspection in June 2012.
