I little late with tonight’s “Openings & Closings” due to earlier reports of an explosion that turned out to be related to fireworks. The corner space at 53 W. 72nd (at Columbus) has been vacant ever since Indian restaurant Earten Oven closed in August 2011. In October 2011 it was reported that Jennifer Klein, a [...]

UPDATE 4/16/13: Looks like Birch will be opening on April 30 If you live anywhere near Columbus & 96th, you’ve probably seen the “Coming Soon” signage for Birch Coffee — it’s been been up since August. Finally got an update on this space and it looks like they’re planning to open in February.

The December “UWS Work From Home” meeting/networking/social event will take place on Wednesday, 12/12. The monthly “meetings” serve as a great opportunity for people in the neighborhood who are self-employed, telecommute, freelance, or otherwise work from home to get out and meet people in similar situations from around the UWS. I’ve attended a few of [...]

Posted back in July that Backyard @ 160 had closed (160 Freedom Place). The closing was notable because Backyard was one of the few restaurants in the immediate area of all the Riverside Boulevard/Freedom Place buildings. After several months, it looks like a new restaurant is finally getting ready to take its place.

If you’re a long-time reader, you may have noticed there haven’t been any recent posts about the casual monthly get-togethers for Upper West Siders who work from home. MUW reader @wiljr started organizing the effort last year and the “meetings” served as a great opportunity for people in the neighborhood who are self-employed, telecommute, freelance, [...]

Posted last month that Papasito Mexican Grill & Agave Bar (2728 Broadway, btw. 104/105) had its application for a liquor license renewal denied by the State Liquor Authority. It appeared to be the knockout punch for the restaurant that has drawn the ire of neighbors and Community Board 7 for more than a year. Not [...]
