It looks like the days may be numbered for the Rite Aid at 210 Amsterdam (between 69th & 70th). A “For Rent” recently went up outside the store.

It’s been more than a year since a liquor license application first appeared on the window of the Beacon Hotel (2130 Broadway, between 74th & 75th), indicating something was in the works. That something is the swanky looking Beacon Bar, which finally opened its doors last Friday.

It’s been eight months since Turkish restaurant Savann suddenly closed shop at 414 Amsterdam (between 79th & 80th). I heard at least one rumor at the time that they would reopen, but it never happened. The space is now slated to become the Upper West Side’s newest Pinkberry.

I’ve been getting questions from readers about the construction taking place at 670 Columbus (between 92nd & 93rd), so it seems like a good time for an update. Despite some rumors going around about this becoming a Bed Bath & Beyond, it’s actually slated to be a Party City superstore.

Mentioned last week that the Food Emporium at 2008 Broadway (corner of 68th) is closing. They’ve since begun a liquidation sale of their remaining inventory, knocking 10% – 50% off the price of just about everything (alcohol, tobacco, and a few other items excluded). Another day, another DOH closing. Wrote yesterday that Cheesy Pizza (Broadway & 100th) was temporarily shuttered. Now comes word that 72nd Street Bagel (130 W. 72nd) is the latest UWS eatery to suffer the wrath of the health department. 72nd Street Bagel had previously earned an “A” during their last graded inspection in September 2012.
