UPDATE 4/16/13: Looks like Birch will be opening on April 30 If you live anywhere near Columbus & 96th, you’ve probably seen the “Coming Soon” signage for Birch Coffee — it’s been been up since August. Finally got an update on this space and it looks like they’re planning to open in February.

Looks like Columbus Tavern (269 Columbus, between 72nd & 73rd) mysteriously closed yesterday. The restaurant, which replaced City Grill, opened just a little over a year ago. MUW reader Jamie e-mailed to report the closing. Per Jamie:

Posted back in December about an early-morning fire that ripped through Georgia’s Cafe & Bakery (2418 Broadway, at 89th) — they’ve been closed ever since. Staff had originally said they planned to reopen “soon” after the fire, but it looks like that won’t be the case, as “For Rent” signage went up yesterday.

Based on the number of people coming to MyUpperWest from keyword searches for “Jacob’s Pickles,” there’s been a ton of interest in this place (first mentioned all the way back in March when it was referred to as “Snack Bar”). It appears as though it’s now finally open.

Well, after months of rumors and waiting, it looks like the new Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at 532 Amsterdam (corner of 86th) is finally open.

Another day, another Upper West Side Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf update (with plenty of non-Coffee Bean stuff too). Thanks to MUW reader Chari’s photo above, we now have some concrete evidence they plan to open a location at 79th & Columbus.
