Another day, another DOH closing. Wrote yesterday that Cheesy Pizza (Broadway & 100th) was temporarily shuttered. Now comes word that 72nd Street Bagel (130 W. 72nd) is the latest UWS eatery to suffer the wrath of the health department. 72nd Street Bagel had previously earned an “A” during their last graded inspection in September 2012.

Upper West Side stalwart Cheesy Pizza (2640 Broadway, at 100th) is the latest neighborhood spot to be closed by the Health Department. The restaurant, which has been on the UWS for more than 20 years, was shuttered on Friday. Cheesy Pizza previously earned a “B” during its last graded inspection in July 2012.

Cava Wine Bar (185 W. 80th, between Amsterdam & Columbus) is the latest Upper West Side establishment to incur the wrath of the Health Department. DOH ordered the space temporarily closed on Wednesday. The wine bar/restaurant had previously earned an “A” during their last graded inspection in June 2012.

Looks like 3 Star Coffee Shop (541 Columbus, at 86th) got zero stars from the Health Department. The restaurant was recently shuttered by DOH after racking up an impressive (i.e. NOT impressive) 106 violation points. Good news if you’ve been unable to get your bagel fix the past few days. Absolute Bagels, which was shuttered by the health department last week, reopened today. The store, considered by many to have the best bagels on the Upper West Side, had been closed since Thursday, 1/17.

UPDATE 1/25: M2M has reopened Looks like the health department has been busy on the Upper West Side. Not only did they close Absolute Bagels and Saigon Grill, they also shuttered convenience store M2M (2935 Broadway, between 114th & 115th). The store had previously earned a “B” grade in August.

UWS Greek restaurant Kefi (505 Columbus, between 84th & 85th) is the latest neighborhood eatery to be temporarily closed by the health department. The restaurant had previously earned an “A” grade after their most recent inspection in April. They were closed on Monday and reopened for business today.

The Cold Stone Creamery/Tim Hortons Coffee combo at 162 W. 72nd (between Amsterdam & Columbus) is the latest UWS spot to be shuttered by the Department Of Health. They had previously earned an “A” grade during their last DOH inspection in February.

Well here’s a delightful bit of news… In an effort to combat the spread of West Nile Virus, the Department of Health is spraying a huge chunk of the Upper West Side with pesticide. Spraying will take place from 1:00 am to 6:00 am Friday morning (8/31) — i.e. it’s starting late tonight.

UWS restaurant Machiavelli (519 Columbus, at 85th), which opened last September, was recently shuttered by the health department. The restaurant had previously earned an “A” grade after their most recent inspection. (Thanks to MUW reader Johnny Scats for the tip).
