Catching up on some news that piled up while I was traveling. Women’s clothing retailer Betsey Johnson filed for bankruptcy protection last month and will be closing all its stores. The upshot for Upper West Siders is that there’s now a 20% – 50%-off liquidation sale at the 248 Columbus location (between 71st & 72nd).

The new Brooks Brothers (2381 Broadway, between 87th & 88th), first mentioned back in November, officially opened last week. They were aiming to be open by February and their signage had said “Spring 2012,” so if you split the difference it appears they were able to meet their goals.

Mentioned in November that the Gap located at 2373 Broadway (corner of 86th) was not renewing their lease — it’s one of 189 Gaps around the country that is being shuttered. Looks like the Syms/Filene’s Basement liquidation sale is officially on its last legs. While it was originally supposed to to run through January, it now appears tomorrow (Thursday, 12/29) will be their last day. Looks like we’re heading into the final days of the Syms & Filene’s Basement liquidation sale. It was supposed to run through January, but a sign that went up last night indicates there are only 10 days left. The store has expanded holiday hours from now through 12/24:
