There’s been quite a bit of upheaval at popular UWS Spanish restaurant Gastroarte (formerly Graffit) over the past few weeks (141 W. 69, between Broadway & Columbus). Chef and partner Jesus Nunez left a few weeks ago and now a sign in the window indicates “the restaurant is closed for kitchen restoration.”

So long Graffit — we hardly knew you. Due to the lawsuit first mentioned by MUW in February, Chef Jesus Nunez is changing the name of his Upper West Side restaurant to “Gastroarte.” Per EaterNY:

Last month MyUpperWest linked to New York Times restaurant critic Sam Sifton’s review of Graffit (141 West 69th), the Spanish-modernist restaurant that opened in mid-December. That post generated quite a bit of interest, so now I’m passing along a brief review by New York Magazine’s Adam Platt that just came out. While Platt seems to [...]

Interesting discussion going on at the The Times’ Diner’s Journal blog. Last week Sam Sifton reviewed Upper West Side newcomer Graffit. In a follow-up post on Diner’s Journal, he asked readers to list their top three Upper West Side restaurants (he defined UWS at 60th to 96th, west of Central Park). At the time of [...]

Graffit (141 West 69th), the Spanish-modernist restaurant that opened in mid-December, was just by Sam Sifton of The New York Times. The review heaps mostly praise on Spanish Chef Jesús Núñez and the restaurant. Sifton writes that rather than focus on classical Spanish cooking, his attention “appears to be centered on art and architecture, on [...]
Graffit, the newly-opened Upper West Side avante garde Spanish restaurant, has some explaining to do in court, according to The New York Post. The restaurant, which opened in December at 69th between Broadway and Columbus, is being sued by downtown rival Graffiti Bistro & Bakery (10th Street between 1st and 2nd). The owner of the [...]

Graffit, the art-meets-food, Spanish-influenced spot at 69th between Broadway and Columbus, opens today. The restaurant, which is headed up by Spanish-born chef Jesus Nunez, has been generating a lot of buzz for its forward-thinking food with artistic presentation (The New York Times declares, “Wylie Dufresne had better watch his back”). Stop by and try dishes [...]
Graffit restaurant will open this November at 141 West 69th Street (between Broadway and Columbus), with the New York debut of Spanish-born chef Jesús Núñez, who built his reputation for artistic and modern Mediterranean food at his highly regarded Madrid restaurants, Polenta and Flau. Núñez has been hailed as one of Spain’s leading chefs by [...]
Above, Eater NY gets a sneak peek at the progress on graffiti-inspired decor at soon-to-be-open Graffit (69th between Broadway and Columbus). The Spanish restaurant, headed up by chef Jesús Núñez, who is also a visual artist, is slated to open in November. In closing news, the Shining Star 24 Hour Diner, located on Amsterdam between [...]
