There’s some action brewing at the old Cardeology space at 452 Amsterdam (81st/82nd) — a new store called Treat House is gearing up to open. It’s billed as “the first crisped rice treat emporium.”

Posted back in March that the Barney’s Co-Op at 2151 Broadway (between 75th & 76th) is slated to undergo a renovation and re-branding. As you can see in the photo above, that process has begun.

Looks like gift/toy store Maxiga has closed — the windows are papered up and no one is answering their phone at their 2233 Broadway location (between 79th & 80th). Maxiga opened on the Upper West Side back in September 2011 (this space used to house a Best Buy Mobile store).

Wrote back in February about plans for the Aldo shoe store at 2345 Broadway (at 86th) to relocate two blocks south to the former Coach store space at 2321 Broadway (at 84th). They’re finally getting close to opening.

If you blinked, you may have missed it — Malaysian restaurant Penang (172 W. 72nd, between Amsterdam & Columbus) has unexpectedly shuttered It has been immediately replaced by the second Upper West Side outpost of Chinese restaurant Legend, joining the one that opened at 258 W. 109th (near Broadway) back in December.

Wrote last month that the “For Rent” signs at the long-vacant Georgia’s Cafe space had been taken down (2418 Broadway, at 89th). Now there’s some more information: A restaurant called Cibo e Vino – cibo is Italian for “food” — is applying for a liquor license at the space.

It was all the way back in January that Juice Press announced it was planning to open two Upper West Side stores. As is common with these things, it took longer than expected to happen, but the first UWS Juice Press opened for business last week at 73 W. 82nd (between Columbus & CPW).

It took a little while longer than expected, but the long awaited Upper West Side outpost of Birch Coffee finally opened this past week at 750 Columbus (at 96th). It looks like the days may be numbered for the Rite Aid at 210 Amsterdam (between 69th & 70th). A “For Rent” recently went up outside the store.

It’s been more than a year since a liquor license application first appeared on the window of the Beacon Hotel (2130 Broadway, between 74th & 75th), indicating something was in the works. That something is the swanky looking Beacon Bar, which finally opened its doors last Friday.

Posted yesterday about Gymboree closing shop at 2271 Broadway (between 81st & 82nd). Thanks to a tip from a reader, it looks like there may be more to this story.

Wrote back in October about Park West, a bistro from the owner of neighborhood stalwart Pomodoro that was slated for 103 W. 70th (between Amsterdam & Columbus). Six months later, it’s finally here — the bar/restaurant opened its doors on Saturday night.
