Wrote last month about the NYPD’s search for man pictured above in connection with ten armed robberies/muggings on the UWS. In each case, the suspect allegedly followed his victim into their building before holding them up with either a gun or knife. Police say they now have the man in custody.

While I think of the Upper West Side as a safe place to live, year-end NYPD statistics show a large uptick in felony crime. The 20th and 24th precincts — covering 59th to 110th Streets, between Central Park and the Hudson — saw a total of 2,095 serious crimes (i.e., murder, rape, robbery, felony assault, [...]

A 35-year-old woman was allegedly the victim of a sexual assault early Saturday morning in Central Park. The incident took place in almost the exact same spot where a woman was stabbed and three police officers were hurt earlier this month, although the crimes are unrelated.

Posted yesterday that a man was found stabbed to death inside a hotel near Broadway & West 93rd on Friday afternoon. That news reminded me that DNAinfo recently ran a brief profile on Bernardo Paulino, the man accused of second-degree murder at the Camden Resident Hotel (205 W. 95th) on 7/20.

UPDATE: Tweets from @NYScanner and @NYCityAlerts confirm stabbing. Police apparently have the suspect in custody. There’s reference to “a crime scene being established,” but no confirmation on the victim’s condition. UPDATE: 206 W. 95th appears to be the “Camden Resident Hotel” — multiple sources list it as an SRO. Per a comment on Yelp, it [...]

The new Brooks Brothers (2381 Broadway, between 87th & 88th), first mentioned back in November, officially opened last week. They were aiming to be open by February and their signage had said “Spring 2012,” so if you split the difference it appears they were able to meet their goals.
