Crazy scene at the 72nd Street 1/2/3 subway station yesterday morning as an attempted robbery unfolded during the morning rush hour commute. The incident apparently ended with the suspect getting pepper sprayed by police on the platform.

It was big news last month (coverage here & here) when P.S. 87 teacher’s aide Gregory Atkins was arrested on charges that he had sexually assaulted a student. Yesterday, in Manhattan Supreme Court, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The new Brooks Brothers (2381 Broadway, between 87th & 88th), first mentioned back in November, officially opened last week. They were aiming to be open by February and their signage had said “Spring 2012,” so if you split the difference it appears they were able to meet their goals.

Posted back in October that Irving Farm Coffee Company was opening an outpost on the Upper West Side. Things have been quiet since then, but they’ve started to heat up recently — the tell-tale “Coming Soon” signage is now hanging outside their future home at 224 West 79th (between Broadway & Amsterdam).
