Spring is just one week away and, with temperatures hovering near 50 today, it’s already starting to feel like it. The Riverside Park Conservancy is holding a Spring Clean Up Day this Saturday (3/16) and is looking for volunteers to help out at various locations throughout Riverside Park. Volunteers will work with RPC staff to [...]

Posted yesterday that all NYC parks, including Central and Riverside, would be closed until noon today. Just a heads up that the closures have been extended to Friday morning. Posted earlier that Riverside Park is officially reopening on Saturday (Central Park, too). In poking around the Riverside Park Fund’s website, I just discovered their annual Halloween Parade that was canceled by Superstorm Sandy has been rescheduled for the late afternoon tomorrow (Saturday, 11/3).

While most of the Upper West Side escaped Superstorm Sandy relatively unscathed, the same cannot be said for two of the neighborhood’s most beloved features: Central Park and Riverside Park. Both suffered extensive wind damage to trees and infrastructure, with Riverside Park also experiencing significant flooding from the Hudson River. Relative to the devastation elsewhere [...]

Mentioned the FlyNY Kite Festival at UWS Pier I earlier today. The Riverside Park Fund (@SummerOnHudson) tweeted this photo of the action a little past noon. I was headed up the West Side Highway around 2:30 pm and the sky over the pier was filled with kites.

Judging by what I can see on the sidewalks, many people have already disposed of their Christmas trees. That said, I know more than a few of you still have yours. If you’re looking for an environmentally sound way to get rid of you tree, take note of the TreeCycle program from The Riverside Park [...]

Last week MyUpperWest mentioned the Firemen’s Memorial as one of the many under-appreciated features of Riverside Park. Since the previous post mentioned the Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument (Riverside & 89th), which plays host to New York City’s official Memorial Day ceremonies each year, it seems like an opportune time to delve into more detail. Per [...]
