UPDATE 11/9: NYPD Internal Affairs Investigating Police Officer Involved In UWS Shooting At Riverside & 91st

If you’ve been hearing a helicopter overhead for the past hour or so and are wondering what it’s about, there are multiple unconfirmed reports on Twitter of a shooting in the neighborhood. Confirmed — off-duty cop shot around Riverside & 91st. Oy… Now I’m hearing the cop was shot AT but did not actually get hit. No more cobbling of details via Twitter for me tonight (but more details after the jump).

No concrete details at the moment, although I’ve seen a few tweets saying an off-duty police officer was shot and there’s some sort of massive manhunt taking place. More details in the morning.

10:49 pm: Manhattan – *U/D SHOTS FIRED* Riverside Drive & W 91 St, #NYPD stating that the suspect fled with the officers weapon. #BREAKING

10:58 pm: Manhattan *U/D SHOTS FIRED, NYPD OFFICER ASSAULTED & HIS WEAPON STOLEN* Massive #NYPD crime scene established @ Riverside Drive & 91 St (D1)

11:11 pm: Manhattan *U/D Shots Fired & NYPD Gun Stolen* #NYPD telling all “plain-cloths officers” to exit Riverside Park immediately.

UPDATE: MUW reader @JamieLee74 heard the following on a scanner:

• Cop was taken to the hospital
• Suspect is 6’2 African-American male with a goatee, wearing jeans a dark hoodie with a gold logo. He was seen heading north on Riverside Drive.
