When NYT restaurant critic Sam Sifton posted his zero-star review of Fishtag (222 W. 79th) in March there was some debate over whether or not he was too harsh.

C.S. Hsia at EatBigApple.com decided to check things out himself earlier this month and came to an entirely different conclusion than Sifton.

It should be noted that Fishtag changed chefs in May, after the Sifton review and, given the date of the EatBigApple post, possibly before before Hsia made his visit. For what it’s worth, 42 reviewers on Yelp give it an average of 4 stars. Despite living about 3 blocks away, the MyUpperWest Gal and I have yet to try it out — it’s on our ever-growing list.

UPDATE: Just got a tweet from @Eatbigapple re: the timing of their visit:

“It was before the Fishtag chef change, but [chef/owner] Psikalis wasn’t there either. The system and team he put in place seems strong.”
