The Central Park tree that crushed a car on Fifth Avenue last weekend, causing traffic backups on the street bordering the park on the east, was turned into mulch this week to help newly planted trees more quickly, according to DNAinfo.  The English Elm had fallen mid-day last Saturday onto a car as a result of excessively soggy ground around the roots.  Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident.  The Parks Department acted quickly after the fall, turning the 100-year-old tree into mulch that would feed younger trees.  Read the full story of the tree’s contribution to the circle of life at DNAinfo.
