10-Year-Old Finally Gets OK’d for Lemonade Stand
Earlier this week, Gothamist reported that 10-year-old Clementine Lee received a $50 ticket for operating without a permit after setting up a lemonade stand in Riverside Park. Ms. Lee and her father set up the stand, selling lemonade for fifty cents a glass. According to Ms. Lee, “it was such a hot day I figured people would want a cold drink.” Well, as you might imagine, the punishment didn’t go over with people too well when they heard the story. To save face, Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe allowed the girl to set up shop again, so her lemonade stand reopened in Columbus Circle yesterday. The NY Post reports that her second operation sold 80 of the fifty cent glasses to raise $40 for the World Wildlife Federation, with Benepe himself buying two glasses, and the parks officer has been temporarily removed from enforcement for some re-training.
