UPDATE 10/14: I just received an e-mail that there’s another public open house at this property on Sunday, 10/16 from 12:00 – 4:00 pm.

Last week’s “UWS Unattainable Apartment” post featured a $16.4 million townhouse at 116 West 71st that is all kinds of awesome.

I received more than a few e-mails and tweets from people who were drooling with envy over the dream home. If you were one of them, I’ve got some pretty cool news: there’s a public open house this weekend. No need to dress fancy and pretend you actually have $16 million to spend!

Jason Haber, the CEO of Rubicon Property and the agent for the listing, e-mailed to say a series of open houses are part of the LEED certification process. Per Jason’s note:

We are going to be conducting an open house at the single-family townhouse at 116 West 71st Street this Sunday from 12 – 2 pm.  Normally, townhouses (or apartments) at this price point do not engage in public open houses.  But rather than be insular with this home, we want to open it up to the West Side community.  People should see, firsthand, the health and quality of life benefits of making an investment in green living.  We believe this is the first single family townhouse in our community to be LEED certified.  The townhouse is an exemplar of not only luxury living, but healthy living.

Like all our open houses at Rubicon Property, each time a guest registers, we make a donation of $1 towards our latest clean water campaign.  To date, we’ve raised enough funds to provide safe drinking water to 714 people living in the developing world.  So just by coming by, you can not only see the most remarkably renovated townhouse in our community, but you can also help to make the world a better place.

The only thing we ask is that people take off their shoes upon entry.  We just had the floors cleaned and are hoping to keep the house in pristine condition.  The cellar and exterior facade are not fully done yet, but the vast majority of the renovation is now complete.

If you’ve got any sort of interest in NYC real estate this a rare and fantastic opportunity. The apartment might still be “unattainable,” but at least you can prance around for a short time on Sunday and imagine the possibilities.
