Allman Brothers Evicted from Beacon Theatre
Not this year...
With the Beacon Theatre’s renovations complete and its show schedule in full swing, the venue at Broadway and 74th is at a pace similar to its pre-renovation activity. There is one big thing missing, however… since 1991, The Allman Brothers Band have performed at the Beacon for multi-night runs each year. After 188 consecutive sell-outs at the venue, the band is now forced to find a new place to perform to make room for Cirque du Soleil’s Banana Shpeel. As a result, they are now performing an eight-night run at the United Palace Theatre (Brodway and 175th) starting tonight. Just to top off the bad news for fans of the Allman Brothers-Beacon Theatre tradition, Banana Shpeel’s opening is now delayed for a second time, with a new scheduled opening of April 29th (the opening was delayed from February 25th to March 17th last month). The Cirque du Soleil production will be the only show playing at the Beacon through August 2010.
