Animal Blessings At UWS Cathedral Of St. John The Divine Brings Out Camels & Yaks, Among Others

On Friday I mentioned Saturday’s annual “Blessing Of Animals” at Grace & St. Paul’s Church. I neglected to include a similar, much larger, gathering at the Cathedral of St. John The Divine on Sunday because, by that point, they stopped distributing advanced passes.
Apparently that ceremony included kangaroos, camels, yaks, miniature horses, dogs, cats, birds and other critters. Had I known it was going to be a veritable zoo I would have never skipped over it. Lesson learned for next year.
DNAinfo has the story (and photos) of the event. It’s not entirely clear why Sopranos actress Edie Falco was there and holding a kangaroo (no, it’s not hers), but hey — never a dull moment on the Upper West Side.
I heard from someone involved with the smaller Saturday ceremony at Grace & St. Paul’s that the event went off without a hitch, except for one dog “who attends every year broke free and headed up on her own to where the pastor was telling the story. Impatient for blessing!”
