A plea deal was reached yesterday for three teens who spraypainted graffiti over Bethesda Terrace (Central Park, mid-park near 72nd) last February, according to the New York Post.  The teens will avoid jail under the plea agreement, but are sentenced to 200 hours of community service mucking out the park’s horse stables, a sentence that the Central Park Conservancy insisted upon.  The vandals caused over $40,000 worth of damage to Bethesda Terrace, which had been restored in 2007.  Looking at the horrible damage they created to our beautiful park, shoveling horse manure is the least they could do.

Amen! Thanks to the efforts of the Conservancy, the park is a beautiful place again. I think the sentence is light. The kids should have to work to pay off the $40,000 it cost to repair the damage, and THEN clean the horse stables for 200 hours!

Ugh, a slap on the wrist! Cleaning horse stables is not sufficient retribution or deterrence!! These kids should be in jail.
