Big Cuts to UWS Subway Employees

subway The MTA’s cuts of station agents and other subway employees will affect lines throughout the city, but the proposed changes target many employees in our Upper West Side subway stations, West Side Spirit reports.  The article lists a series of UWS stations that are scheduled to see cuts in employees (see below).  Fingers crossed the jobs are somehow saved… nobody wants to see the subway system become less safe, dirtier, or more difficult to use.

Proposed job cuts by station

Express stops to 2 and 3 trains: fewer station customer assistants
Columbus Circle 1/A/C/B/D station: reduced booth agent service hours at Broadway/59th entrance
72nd Street 1/2/3 station: part-time customer assistant eliminated at 71st entrance
96th Street 1/2/3 station: reduced booth agent service hours at W 94th entrance
66th Street 1 station: two customer assistants eliminated at Columbus kiosk and northbound Broadway platform
79th Street 1 station: customer assistant eliminated on northbound side
86th Street 1 station: two customer assistants eliminated with part-time booth agent service on weekday mornings and late afternoons
