Buyer of 26 West 76th Street Townhouse Revealed

26w76-townhouse-aLast week, we reported that a mystery buyer purchased the townhouse at 26 West 76th Street for a price just shy of $20 million.  After speculation about who this buyer is and attention paid to the listing from high-profile names like Matt Damon and Alex Rodriguez, yesterday the New York Post revealed the new owner of the 10,000-plus square foot, seven story mansion… billionaire Henry Silverman, the former owner of businesses including Avis Rent-a-Car and Days Inn, purchased the townhouse and plans to move in with his mistress/fiancée and their baby boy.  Silverman met fiancée Karen Hader, a personal trainer, two years ago, and while the jury’s still out on how they met (one story is that he saw her in a Starbucks line, became smitten, and whispered “Google me” after handing her his card, while another is that she was hired to exercise his hip after surgery), all agree that the May-December romance is currently going strong.  Don’t expect a marriage for the high-profile engaged couple in the immediate future, though… Silverman is still married to his second wife, Nancy, who lives across the park on East 72nd Street (they have one child together).  While the townhouse’s sale is finalized, Henry Silverman and Karen Hader are staying in a $40,000-per-month apartment at 15 Central Park West on the same floor as, who else? Alex Rodriguez.  Guess the UWS uber-wealthy is a pretty small circle.
