If you’re a jazz aficionado and you’re looking for something to do tonight or tomorrow, head on up to Smoke Jazz & Supper Club (2751 Broadway, btw. 105/106) to celebrate what would have been Miles Davis’ 85th birthday.
DNAinfo reports that the club will host musicians this weekend who played with Davis, including Eddie Henderson and George Coleman. Davis used to live on West 77th and apparently there’s a campaign to name the corner of 77th and West End after him.
You can still catch 10:00 and11:30 pm sets tonight, or sets on Sunday at 7:00, 9:00, and 10:30 pm. There’s a cover charge of $35. Smoke can be reached at 212-864-6662 if you have any questions.
My parents are “jazz people” and we actually ended up at Smoke for Mother’s Day this year. It’s a small but cozy venue and the food was pretty good. If you prefer to just listen to music rather than eat there, there’s a bar area available. It’s a pretty intimate setting, as the small space means there isn’t really a bad seat in the house.
