It’s that lovey-dovey time of year again… Valentine’s Day is on Monday. Whether you want to express your love of significant other or celebrate your singledom, there’s something for you to do in the city. Here are an array of V-Day happenings on the Upper West Side.
• The American Museum of Natural History (Central Park West at 79th) is offering a special Valentine’s Day event, Romance Under the Stars, taking place on Monday evening. Come to the Hayden Planetarium Space Theater to enjoy a cocktail hour complete with open bar, champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and hors d’oeuvres. Later, join an astronomer in the Hayden Planetarium for a unique view of the night sky. The $75-per-person tickets include appetizers and an hour of open bar. • Village Pourhouse (Amsterdam between 108th and 109th) is keeping the holiday lively with a Couples Beer Pong Tournament. Come to the bar on Sunday evening with your sweetie and pay the $40-per-couple fee to compete in the tournament and enjoy a two-hour Bud Light open bar.
• All chocolate lovers are invited to the Jewish Community Center (Amsterdam at 76th) for a special Valentine’s Day chocolate-making event on Monday evening. Wai Chu, author and formerly the co-owner of El Eden Chocolates, shows you how to make truffles guaranteed to satisfy even the most die-hard chocoholic. Purchase tickets through the event website.
• Restaurants are celebrating the holiday with a variety of prix fixe and Valentine’s Day-themed menus. The Sunburnt Calf (79th between Broadway and Amsterdam) is offering a special $30-per-head four-course Lovers Dinner featuring an Australian rack of lamb over bush couscous salad. The Calf is going one step further by welcoming singles this V-Day for the “No Love at the Cow” party, giving singles a chance to mingle, eat, and drink. Down the street, Fatty Crab (Broadway at 77th) has a prix fixe menu on Monday night, offering a whole chili lobster for two along with appetizers, rum & coconut with two straws, and dessert, all for $69 per couple. Finally, an array of Lincoln Center-area restaurants have a Fashion Week prix fixe menu in which you can indulge for Valentine’s Day.
