Celebrity Chef (And Upper West Sider) Michael White Dishes On His Favorite Neighborhood Food Spots

Chef Michael White, a James Beard Award recipient, is one of the top names in the NYC culinary scene. The restaurants in his Altamarea Group are highly respected, with two of them — Marea and Ai Fiori — receiving coveted Michelin stars.
He’s also an Upper West Sider (via Wisconsin) and recently gave Serious Eats his top food picks for his slice of the neighborhood.
You can read the full story at SeriousEats.com.
Chef White appears to live in the northern part of the UWS, as all his picks are between 105th & 112th Streets. To be clear, this isn’t meant to be a comprehensive listing for the entire Upper West Side, but rather a targeted look as a specific portion of the neighborhood.
The article includes a brief write-up on each spot, but here’s the quick list:
- Pizza: V&T Pizzeria
- Bagel: Absolute Bagels
- Delivery: Wondee Siam V
- Bakery: Silver Moon Bakery
- Breakfast: Manchester Diner
- Ice Cream/Gelato/Frozen Yogurt: Pinkberry
- Falafel: Moaz
- Late-Night Eats: Taqueria y Fonda
Feel free to weigh in with your own thoughts on these places in the comments section.
I’ve never been to Absolute Bagels, but when H&H closed (exactly one year ago today — where the hell did the time go?!) multiple readers wrote in to say it didn’t matter, because Absolute has “the best bagels in NYC.”
