Four new king penguins have been added to the over 60 penguins at Central Park Zoo (east side of the park, near 64th), according to the zoo’s press release. The four male penguins, Lyle, Slappy, Will, and Robert, have joined the other kings, gentoos, and chinstraps, and are enjoying getting acclimated to their new habitat. King penguins have the same tuxedo-plumage as gentoos and chinstraps but have bright orange feathers at their neck and stand about three feet tall, while gentoos and chinstraps are closer to two feet tall. Be sure to check them out by visiting the “Polar Seabirds: Life on the Edge of the World” exhibit at the zoo, which is open year-round (get details of hours and pricing for Central Park Zoo at their website). In the meantime, click through to check out some photos of the penguin exhibit, courtesy of the New York Post.
