heckscherballfieldsAre you as excited as we are about the conclusion of winter this year?  Perhaps we have been unusually eager for spring, but we were filled with joy to see that the ballfields in Central Park are opening in a matter of weeks, on Saturday, April 10th.  Soon you will be able to play baseball, softball, and kickball in the three areas of the park with fields: the North Meadow (mid-park at 97th), which was restored in 2000 and has seven baseball fields and five softball fields; the Great Lawn (mid-park from 79th to 85th), which was restored in 1997 and has eight ballfields; and the (near 7th Avenue, from 61st to 63rd), which was restored in 2006 and has six ballfields.  Note that the ballfields on the east side of the North Meadow have a slightly delayed opening, slated to open on Saturday, April 24th.  Learn more about the ballfields of Central Park, along with how to obtain a permit to play, on Central Park Conservancy’s website.
