Closed: Cafe des Artistes
Although it was announced that the closing of Café des Artistes (67th near Central Park West) was temporary until September 13th, The New York Times’ Diner’s Journal reports that the closing of the famous restaurant is permanent. According to the article, owners Jenifer and George Lang had temporarily closed the restaurant for a vacation, and recently changed their minds and decided not to reopen. The restaurant, known for its opulent décor including large romantic murals throughout the space, has seen a slew of famous talent enjoy its food, with quite a few well-known Lincoln Center performers dining at the restaurant after concerts. Many UWSers are sad to hear the news, calling the closing “the end of an era” and keeping their fingers crossed that future plans for the space include a restaurant that carries on the torch of the famous eatery.
