Columbus Square Brokers’ Bounty in Effect

columbus-squareWith the real estate market in NYC still struggling to pick up after the burst of the housing bubble, many apartment buildings are coming up with creative incentives to try to fill the vacant homes.  One such incentive is now being offered at the complex of five rental buildings at Columbus Square (Columbus between 97th and 100th): the buildings’ developers are advertising three months free rent plus a $1,000 bonus to agents if they move into the complex by October 15th, according to The New York Times’ Big Deal.  It is yet unknown as to whether this new incentive will actually bring renters into the buildings more quickly, and more importantly, whether the brokers will choose to share the bonus with renters or to simply not disclose the added incentive they receive for filling apartments.  The Columbus Square project offers luxury amenities from a 70-foot saltwater pool to elevated private parks to washer/dryer units in most homes, and the complex shares an address with the Columbus Square commercial development that includes the new Whole Foods Market and the upcoming Michael’s craft store, Crumbs Bakery, and T.J. Maxx.  After factoring in the free rent, one bedroom units start at $2,799 and two bedroom units start at $4,103, with alcove studios at $2,535 (studios do not receive the free rent offers).
