The Corner Announces Another Retail Opening
With bustling Trader Joe’s and Bank of America locations at the new building at Broadway and 72nd Street, it’s easy to forget that just a few months ago, the building was still under construction, scaffolding dominated the corner, and we weren’t even sure that Trader Joe’s was actually planning to arrive. Now, another store is opening soon in the area, which also contains the ultra-luxury rental apartments at The Corner. The newest tenant? Sorry to deliver some disappointing news, but it’s going to be a Duane Reade. The store, which posted signs indicating a planned spring 2011 opening, looks to be a super-sized location that will include a “Look Boutique,” a beauty department that will hold high-end lines like Pür Minerals and Too Faced makeup and Bulgari fragrances. Some Look Boutiques also offer makeup services by certified aestheticians, giving Sephora a run for their money. Still, another Duane Reade? With locations on 72nd between Broadway and West End and on Broadway between 69th and 70th, it’s not like the area is lacking the pharmacy chain. Fingers crossed there is still retail space in The Corner for more needed stores.
