When Susie Essman, the actress who plays the hilarious and foul-mouthed Susie Greene on Curb Your Enthusiasm, bought her Straus Park apartment (Broadway at 107th) four years ago and furnished it with a sleek, minimalist red couch, she assumed the new place and furniture would feel like home. Sadly, the sofa was rock hard, with itchy fabric. It was bad for napping (impossible, really), and although she tried throw pillows, circled the room, looking at the couch from different angles while wanting to like it, and talk to herself, trying desperately to believe she was at peace with the couch, she wasn’t. “I was in a psychotic episode. I was in some kind of episode about the couch.” What else is there to do but sell your apartment? City Room reports that Essman listed her two-bedroom, two-bath home for $1.445 million a year ago, after the sofa episode. In the meantime, she searched high and low and found a new red couch, this time leather and comfortable (pictured above). Once the new couch was in the apartment, Essman’s problems were solved, and she took the apartment off the market. However, it’s for sale again, this time for a slightly more logical reason. Essman and her husband stumbled upon a house for sale in Cedar Hill, NY, on the Hudson River, not far from their main residence in Glenmont, NY, a suburb of Albany, and signed a contract on it after falling in love with it. She is now looking for a smaller home in Manhattan, where she spends about three days a week, while the Straus Park home is for sale, listed at $1.495 million. Check out the listing, complete with photos containing the horrible couch, at the Prudential Douglas Elliman listing.
