DELUSIONAL UPPER WEST SIDER OF THE WEEK: UWS Guy Thinks His CD Collection Is Worth $14,000

A portion of the 2,000 CD collection available on Craigslist for $14,000 (Photo: Craigslist)

I think it’s fair to say that many people have old CD collections lying around that they’re not sure what to do with.

Some still listen to them, while others have transferred the content to MP3 format.

I suspect a lot of the actual discs get thrown out or donated to libraries, but one Upper West Sider has a 2,000 CD collection that he’s selling for the low, low price of $14,000.

MUW reader Jonathan found the following Craigslist ad for a massive music collection.

I’m not sure I would take 2,000 CDs for free, let alone pay $14,000 for them.

I get that this guy is both financially and emotionally invested in his collection, but this is insane.

No word yet on how much he’s asking for his eight-tracks and cassettes…

BLUES CD COLLECTION-$$$ – $14000 (Upper West Side)

I have approximately 2000 mostly blues cd’s that I am gearing up to sell – if the price is right. I’ve had a few lowball offers and have heard from the collectors about how the value has dropped. Yeah, yeah, yeah, —- I’m not having it! If you want a great collection – YA GOTTA PAY FOR IT! If you’re not prepared to part with some serious cash for a serious collection, don’t waste your time or mine. I WILL NOT BE GIVING AWAY A $30K COLLECTION.

If you want to see the alphabetized list of my cds, contact me and I will supply it to you. If you want to cherry pick the collection, expect to pay $7 or more per cd. A small percentage of my collection is from iTunes and they are indicated in my list as such.

This is mainly GUITAR oriented music – but I enjoy all good music and I have everything from rock, opera, big band, Texas swing, 60′s soul, country, etc. I DO NOT collect pop music, rap or hip-hop, no new wave, hair bands, punk or anything by the current group of Justins. There are some odd-ball artists (oh yeah!) in there but that’s part of the fun. There are more than 200 blues samplers in the collection and many out of print cd’s that you will NOT find on iTunes or any other sites.

To give you an idea of the artists I have/like: Muddy Waters, Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters, Magic Sam, Robben Ford, Ford Brothers Blues Band, Dave Specter, Mike Henderson, Buddy Flett & The Bluebirds, Shuggie Otis, Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, Dave Stryker, Joe Louis Walker, Otis Grand, Pat Metheny, Nighthawks, Steve Miller, Johnny Winter, Sonny Boy Williamson, T-Bone Walker, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac (the blues band, not the pop music), Humble Pie, The Kinks, Amazing Rhythym Aces, The Byrds, Derek Trucks Band, Watermelon Slim, Ian Siegal, Sonny Landreth, Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, Stevie Ray, Quicksilver, Poco, Neil Young. Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Joe Bonamassa, Jimmy Thackery, Tab Benoit, Smokin’ Joe Kubek, Bill Perry, Tinsley Ellis, Popa Chubby, John Mayall, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Tampa Red, JB Hutto, Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials, JB Hutto, Elmore James, Gov’t Mule, George Thorogood, Clapton, Foghat, Too Slim & The Taildraggers, Johnny Cash, Django Rheinhart, Duke Robillard, Delta Moon, Otis Rush, BB King, JJ Cale, Savoy Brown, Luther Allison, King Curtis, and of course – Freddie & Albert King.

If anyone is interested, I still have all my old Boyz II Men and Hootie CDs — they can be yours for pennies on the dollar.

Nice collection, but no, he’s not gonna get $7 per disk, in a bunch.
