Events in the Parks this Weekend

Weather forecasters are calling for fantastic spring days this weekend, with sunny skies and temperatures well into the 60′s. Since you are probably like us and know you will be itchin’ to hang outdoors this weekend, here are a few events lined up in our Upper West Side parks. First, come to Central Park on Sunday for the New York Road Runners’ Saturday 10K race, the Scotland Run. The race, starting and ending on the west side of the jogger’s path in the 60′s, is part of Scotland Week celebrations. Take part in the race by registering through NYRR, or just spectate to see some awesome kilt-clad runners and to join in on the post-race festivities, taking place on the west side of the park near 67th and including live music, games, face-painting, and dancing. Are you more of a Riverside Park Upper West Sider? Then come to the park on the Hudson River on Sunday for Family Nature Journals. Start a nature journal with the Urban Park Rangers by exploring the natural gems hidden in plain sight in Riverside Park. This free event meets at River Run Playground (at 83rd) and welcomes all ages. If you are looking for tours of Central Park, remember that you can always go to the Central Park Conservancy’s website for their calendar of almost-daily free tours like the “Amble through the Ramble” tour or the “A Road Once Traveled” tour.
