Fairway Cafe’s Future Unclear as Community Fights Possible Closing
Fairway Cafe, the restaurant on the second floor of the Upper West Side staple Fairway Market (Broadway between 74th and 75th), is in danger of closing (according to some inside sources), and Upper West Siders are not happy. Eater New York reports that members of the community have organized to try to save the restaurant, starting a “Save Fairway Cafe” website, creating petitions that request management to keep it open, and getting the word out to the press, hoping that the eatery’s famous fans like Dustin Hoffman and Keanu Reeves will come to the movement’s side. In the meantime, the cafe’s future remains unknown… one worker states that there is talk of converting it to a coffee department, but management has not put plans in motion or made any official announcements (including providing a reason for the closure).
