Fairway’s New Warehouse Aims to Reduce Area Congestion

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

fairwayDNAinfo reports that Fairway, the UWS grocery staple on Broadway and 74th, has taken action to reduce its noise and traffic congestion in the neighborhood.  The store, which also has locations in Red Hook, Harlem, and outside of the city, reportedly opened a 15,000-square-foot warehouse in early December to centralize deliveries.  The UWS store will now reportedly see fewer trucks pulling up, as the produce suppliers will instead bring shipments to the warehouse, located on 134th and 12th.  Now that the warehouse is up and running, reps from Fairway promise less noise and congestion for the store’s neighbors, but some neighbors aren’t seeing a difference.  Resident Michael French hasn’t noticed a decrease in delivery trucks since the warehouse opened, and resident Gretchen Berger only noticed fewer trucks when the warehouse first opened, and an increase in deliveries since.  We will keep you posted on whether Fairway can find peace with its neighbors as the congestion saga continues.
