Film Event Thursday: Fowl Play
The Film Society of Lincoln Center will continue its Green Screens program, a series of films addressing the vital environmental concerns of global warming, the safety of our food supply, sustainable living, and more, on Thursday with an interesting film. Come to the Walter Reade Theater (65th between Broadway and Amsterdam, upper level) for a screening of Fowl Play, followed by discussion and reception. This documentary investigates hen abuse in the industry, drawing on the dedicated documentation of activists. Interviews with rescuers, veterinarians, and animal behaviorists challenge us to consider the politics of ethical eating. The screening is preceded by the screening of a short film, Cows Are Nice, which follows the decline of dairy cows among small farmers. The discussion that follows the Fowl Play screening will be led by panelists Matt Rice (Mercy for Animals), Jenny Brown, (Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary) Martha Lazar, (brooklynfeed.com), and Elizabeth Ayer (BK Farmyard).
