Filming On The Upper West Side Today: “The Americans” & “Person Of Interest”

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

It’s a double-feature of sorts on the UWS today, as two television shows are filming in the area:

FX’s cold-war spy drama The Americans (Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Noah Emmerich) is in the northern part of the neighborhood, while CBS’s Person Of Interest (Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Taraji P. Henson) returns for its second straight day of shooting in the southern part.

OLV reports The Americans is filming around Claremont Avenue & 116th.

Heading south roughly 50 blocks… MUW readers Julian and Alex G. spotted production signage for Person Of Interest around Columbus & 67th.

POI was also filming around Central Park West in the 70s yesterday.

Since we’re talking about The Americans, this gives me a good excuse to post a photo that came in while I was out of town about two weeks ago and I never got to use…

Apparently the show was filming at St. Michael’s Church (225 W. 99th, at Amsterdam) back on 3/19. It was an overcast day and MUW reader Sam spotted some Hollywood trickery in the works:

From our vantage point, it looked like they were backlighting the stained glass windows to make it look like a more sunny day than today!

You can see the lighting set up in the photo below (click for full size):
