Whole Foods at 808 Columbus Opens Today
The new Whole Foods Market at 808 Columbus (near 97th) had its grand opening at 8:00 am today, “breaking bread” to celebrate the opening (a tradition of Whole Foods, rather than ribbon cutting… pictured at left is the Tribeca Whole Foods grand opening). The store itself carries the usual organic and natural products, with an emphasis on locally grown and produced foods and kosher-friendly fare. The store also offers beer on tap, and the first Wine at Whole Foods Market in the city (next door) is working on offering delivery services in conjunction with the Whole Foods food delivery. On that topic, the grocery delivery service starts at $3.95, and serves the West Side and East Side of the island from 77th to 145th.
The new Whole Foods plans to schedule various events often, and the first regular in-store event is planned for tomorrow. Come to the store between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm for the first of the Jazz Legend Series. Local jazz legends come out to play, a local food fair is held, there will be a tasting of Sugar Hill Beer (a Prohibition-era brew that was produced in uptown Manhattan), and stories of Mikell’s Jazz Club, the former establishment at 97th and Columbus, will be told by the Harlem Historical Society. Whole Foods plans to pay respect to the neighborhood with events like this one, so keep checking My Upper West for upcoming Whole Foods events.
