uwswalkingappIf you have an iPhone and are looking for an excuse to spend the day strolling along the streets of the Upper West Side, you might be interested to know about Landmark West’s free walking tour app (I’m an Android guy, so I haven’t been able to test it myself).

Per the iTunes description: “Designed by local experts for people of all ages and ilks – visitors, residents, families, armchair travelers – it’s an exciting new way to experience the architecture and history of one of New York City’s most beloved neighborhoods.”

If you’re not familiar with them, Landmark West! is an award-winning non-profit that has worked to achieve landmark status for individual buildings and historic districts on the Upper West Side and to protect them from insensitive change and demolition. In existence since 1985, they curate nearly 2,700 designated architectural and cultural landmarks on the Upper West Side.
