A Garden is Blooming Over 96th Street Subway Riders

Monday, July 12th, 2010

96th-street-flowers1DNAinfo reports that workers have begun installing an art piece in the 96th Street 1/2/3 subway station that will give riders a garden view of sorts.  180 metal flowers are being installed in the station, linked together and hanging from the ceiling.  The piece, titled Bloemendaal as a reference to the Upper West Side’s historical name, Bloomingdale, is part of the station’s $65 million dollar renovation, which has been taking place since 2007.  Click through for more photos of a rendering of the artwork as well as the piece’s current state, courtesy of DNAinfo.
