Governor Paterson’s Son Taken in by Police after Dice Game in the UWS

paterson-familyGovernor David Paterson’s 15-year-old son was taken into custody for questioning yesterday after being caught playing a sidewalk dice game near his Upper West Side school, according to the New York Post.  Alex Paterson was playing the dice game around 3:00 pm near Beacon High School (61st between Amsterdam and West End) when the police took him into custody at the 20th precinct.  The cops subsequently found a debit card on Alex that belonged to another person (there has been some disagreement as to whether the debit card was stolen).  He was released soon after being taken in, with his mother, First Lady Michelle Paterson, picking her son up from the station shortly before 5:00 pm.  Governor Paterson appeared on the “Imus in the Morning” show this morning to state that his son’s alleged possession of someone else’s debit card is a “non-issue” because it was a lost card that a friend of Alex’s found and it had been unused.  The governor also told Imus that “the principal said the kids play this game all the time… there was no money involved.  It wasn’t gambling.  It was just one of those situations.”  It is unclear whether Alex Paterson will face charges from the incident.
