Gummy Subway Issue Incites Anger
Malcom Carter, a blogger and New York City realtor, wrote a concise piece about the irritation of many Upper West Siders (Carter included) at a problem plaguing the new 96th Street subway station (via Curbed). Although the multimillion dollar renovations on the station are not yet complete, the station is already getting that familiar filthy grime that so many New York City stations have. In particular, hundreds of wads of gum are now permanently dotting the stonework floors. With the MTA staff cuts, specifically cuts of cleaning staff, the gum may be there for years to come. In the meantime, construction is progressing nicely, and it looks like the station may be completed by next month. Check out some of the gummy photographic evidence at Carter’s blog.
What do you think? Are the gummy violators solely to blame? Is there a solution to this sticky issue?
