Halloween Celebrations in the UWS Today

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

jackolanternsThere are two more Halloween events scheduled in the neighborhood today, so come out to enjoy the holiday festivities as October 31st approaches.  First, Central Park’s Charles A. Dana Discovery Center (east side of the park, near 110th) is the place to be for the free Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Sail this afternoon.  Experience some spooky storytelling, eerie music, and an appearance by Frankenstein.  Then, march in the costume parade and participate in the pumpkin sail, where you drop off your own jack o’lantern to watch the city’s largest pumpkin flotilla sail out onto the Meer.  Another great Halloween event today is the Big Green Halloween festival, put on by parents at PS 166 and rescheduled to today due to rain.  The festival is held on 89th between Columbus and Amsterdam and features music, a magic show, a costume contest, a haunted house, celebrity and surprise guests, and tasty food.  The event is planned to be their greenest yet, with many eco-friendly prizes and activities and a partnership with climate change-fighting organization 350.org.
