Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Homer eats a “Guatemalan Insanity Pepper,” a chili so spicy that he hallucinates, sending him into a surreal world?  Gothamist reminded us of this episode when discussing Jeff Blaine’s current project: growing the world’s hottest chili in his Upper West Side apartment’s backyard.  The Daily News spoke to Blaine, 53, about his Naga jolokia (nicknamed the ghost chili), which was named the zestiest chili on the planet by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2007.  Blaine calls the chili “dangerous,” adding, “How hot is hot? You can hallucinate from this chili.”  While the chili is 400 times hotter than Tabasco sauce, Blaine loves it so much that he brings it with him to add a slice when eating out.  He has been growing the seeds with friend and restaurant owner Satish Sehgal, and plans to sell sauce made from the chili soon.  Keep your eyes open for the chili sauce to go up for sale if you are looking for something so spicy that you hallucinate.
