UPDATE: The townhouse is located at 336 W. 71st (between West End & Riverside Boulevard)

Apparently Ann Curry bought a brownstone on the Upper West Side in 2003 that she’s never moved into. She started renovating it after the purchase, but due to lawsuits from neighbors, most construction stopped in 2006.

While the Today Show host has never lived in the $2.9 million property on West 71st, a homeless man has for the past year or so.

The Post reports that one of the neighbors suing Curry over construction issues recently discovered the squatter. Police were dispatched to remove him. Per The Post:

“Ann Curry means crap to me!” barked the vagrant, who refused to give his name or age. “The reason I lived there was because they chased me out of Central Park.”

“I’ve been living there for about a year now,” he said. “I’m not a drug addict; I just don’t have a place to sleep.”

The man first gained access to the property last year, after contractors failed to secure the premises. He spent most of last winter seeking warmth in the spacious 3,700 sf home.

Four neighbors got together in 2007 to sue Curry for close to $1 million, claiming “dangerous and illegal work” on her brownstone was creating a safety hazard for them.

“The building is abandoned, for all practical purposes,” said John Lee, the only neighbor who has refused to settle with Curry. “It’s become an eyesore and a problem.”

In a follow-up story today, Michelle Mendoza, another neighbor, added this: “I find this is the most suburban street on the Upper West Side, and yet we have what looks like a foreclosed property next door.”

The unnamed squatter may have a solution: “I’ll go back if someone says, ‘Here’s the key. Maintain the building,’ ” he told The Post.
