Homeless UWS Woman Left $150,000 to Hebrew University

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

The homeless woman who died two years ago at 92 years old and left $150,000 to Hebrew University had been living out of a shopping cart on the Upper West Side, according to reports.  The woman, a Jewish Holocaust survivor, spent her time on the streets of the Upper West Side for several years when an accountant and his wife befriended her.  They provided food and found her public housing in exchange for her moving their car to comply with alternate side parking regulations.  While she passed away two years ago, it has just been revealed that she had about $300,000 in a bank account, about half of which went to Hebrew University.  The accountant, who had no idea that the woman had that kind of money, was also left about $100,000.
