ING NYC Marathon Lottery Celebrations

The ING New York City Marathon will take place on November 7th this year, giving tens of thousands of runners the chance to run 26.2 miles through all five boroughs, ending in Central Park. Seeing the over-40,000 runners in the race, non-runners may be surprised to discover that there is actually a lottery drawing to get into the NYC Marathon. Unless you qualify based on your super-fast time, run for charity by raising at least $2,500, or qualify by running nine races in 2009 with New York Road Runners, you can only get into the race by entering a lottery, with a pretty small chance of being picked. Today marks the drawing of the lottery, and those chosen will be announced after the live lottery show at noon. If you entered and you do get in, it’s time to celebrate! Bars throughout the city will be holding celebrations tonight for the official Marathon Launch. Join NYRR and other runners for a drink courtesy of NYRR, snacks, and socializing throughout the afternoon and evening. Upper West Side locations include The Parlour (86th between Broadway and West End) and Terrace in the Sky (119th and Columbus). Check NYRR’s marathon party site for a full listing of bars.
