Now Inhabited: The UWS’s Newest Luxury Rentals, The Ashley

Bowling, anyone?
In the midst of a fight between Upper West Side preservationists (including many sitting on Community Board 7) and Extell Development over the Riverside Center development (on the Hudson River between 59th and 61st), Extell has moved forward with its latest residential opening. The Ashley, Extell’s building of rental apartments on 63rd near West End Avenue, began moving residents in last week as they continue construction. The rent-stabilized apartments have all the snazzy details expected in new buildings, from stainless steel appliances to central heat and air to washer/dryers in each unit. In addition, the yet-to-be-completed “amenity space” is fully loaded… residents will enjoy a top-of-the-line fitness center, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room, along with rare-in-the-UWS features like a two-story rock climbing wall, simulated golf driving range, two-lane bowling alley, yoga/pilates/spin classes, and basketball courts. As is expected, apartments have been flying off the shelves, with people happily snagging up the studios (priced starting around $2,600 per month) and one bedrooms (priced starting around $3,400 per month). Most larger apartments in the building are not yet available, however, as the building has only opened up on the finished floors, up to 11, and many two- and three-bedroom homes will be on the currently-unfinished higher floors. Check out more about The Ashley on its website, or click through for a few of our photos of the building and some of the units.
