Philip Bump’s blog, pbump.net (via Gothamist), reports that a tree branch fell in Central Park yesterday, injuring three. At approximately 12:30 pm on a hot Memorial Day, a family was picnicking under a tree near 74th and East Drive when one of the branches broke off. The branch, allegedly about two feet in diameter where it broke, hit three when it fell. A woman seemed to be the most seriously injured, appearing unresponsive at the scene before being taken away in an ambulance. Trees have been a big source of hazardous conditions in the park in recent years, with a branch critically injuring a father last July and another killing a man on the east side of the park in February.
