Apple’s newest gadget, the iPad, debuted in Apple and Best Buy stores after the first shipment at 9:00 am on Saturday to fans eager to be among the first to get their hands on the tablet computer.  Lines formed at the Upper West Side Apple store (Broadway at 67th) around 2:00 am that day, and despite big crowds at this and other Apple stores, everyone in line picked up the iPad (getting an iPad tour if they so desired), and stock had not yet run out as of last night.   Down the street at the Best Buy (Broadway at 62nd), a smaller line formed of iPad buyers looking to avoid the more chaotic Apple store.  Worldwide, the iPad made an impressive debut (although not as impressive as analysts first estimated), selling 300,000 of the product by the end of Saturday.  Check out NYC’s iPad debut on Racked and Gothamist.
