The 137th running of the Kentucky Derby takes place today at approximately 6:24 pm this evening. Here are a few ways to celebrate on the Upper West Side:

  • 67 Wine (Columbus & 68th) will be offering free tastings of the traditional Kentucky Derby drink, the Mint Julep, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. They’re featuring Michter’s Small Batch Bourbon.
    .
  • Dive Bar (Amsterdam & 96th) is hosting their annual Kentucky Derby Beer Tasting & Luncheon. $50 will get you the beer tasting and food pairing. The beer tasting without food is $18. Tickets can be purchased on Dive Bar’s website (near the bottom of the screen). I’m not 100% if you HAVE to buy online or if you can just walk-in — I’d suggest calling the bar to be sure: 212-749-4358. Dive Bar will also have a “Fancy Hat” contest, with the winner receiving a Woodford Reserve Gift Basket and the runner-up getting a Dive Bar gift certificate.
    .
  • Village Pourhouse (Amsterdam, between 108th & 109th) is hosting a “Kentucky Derby Infield Party.” $40 will get you a 3 hour mid-shelf open bar (4:00 – 7:00 pm). Like Dive Bar, you can purchase tickets on Village Pourhouse’s wesbsite. Again, I don’t know if that’s your only option or if you can simply walk in — call the bar to be sure: 212-979-2337
