Last-Minute New Year’s Options for Music Lovers

new-years-celebrationStill looking for something to do tonight for New Year’s?  Here are a couple more options for ringing in 2010.  First, the newly renovated and reopened Rubenstein Atrium (Broadway between 62nd and 63rd) is the location of a fun free concert.  Come to part two of the “Swinging Through the Holidays” miniseries, where the Champian Fulton Quartet will perform.  Vocalist and pianist Champian Fulton evokes the era of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald with a set list ranging from high energy swing to sultry jazz classics.  The quartet will play a set at 8:30 pm and another at 11:15 pm.  The best part?  The show is free! If you are instead looking for a more spiritual celebration this evening, come to the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine for a “New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace.”  Join Harry Smith, Judy Collins, Glen Cortese, Lauren Flanigan and other treasured guests to ring in the New Year with music, readings and meditations, and the traditional passing of candle flames while singing “This Little Light of Mine.”  While reserved seating for the 90 minute event is $60, general seating is free.  With both options offering the possibility of celebrating the new year with fabulous music for free, either event is a great way to celebrate the evening!
